What is the Kingdom of God?

God has a Kingdom. God has placed Jesus as the King of this Kingdom. All that believe on His Son, Jesus Christ, are the people in His Kingdom. It is conditional to belong in the Kingdom of God.

Do you believe God’s Divine plan for us is to be a participant in His Kingdom? Is it your desire today to be a participator in His Kingdom? As a Christian, I can feel His plan, His Kingdom in me. He reveals His plan in the Bible. Yes, “the Kingdom of God is at hand”. I want to be a participator in the building of God’s Kingdom. How about you?

Let’s read a few scriptures about belonging in His Kingdom…

It all begins with becoming a child of the King…John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

How do I become a child of the King?

  • John 1:12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
  • Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Each of you must turn from your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

There are two important steps that should be desired as a child of God’s Kingdom.

  1. As stated above in John, you FIRST must accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. We do this by repenting of our sinful ways, and accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ into our heart and our daily living. Water baptism should follow all believers, for it is a physical sign of our surrender to and into Jesus Christ.
  2. The next step is to believe for and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit; simply put, the infilling of the Holy Spirit. This experience is to be desired after you are (born-again), a believer.

The term “Kingdom of Heaven” denotes a realm from whence the Kingdom comes…the term “Kingdom of God” denotes whose is the Kingdom, as a person.

  • Colossians 1:13 For he has rescued us from the one who rules in the kingdom of darkness, and he has brought us into the Kingdom of his dear Son.
  • Matthew 10:7 Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near.
  • John 4:24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
  • Luke 12:31 He will give you all you need from day to day if you make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:18 All this newness of life is from God, who brought us back to himself through what Christ did. And God has given us the task of reconciling people to him.
  • Matthew 6:10 (KJV) Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. What is the Kingdom of God?

Let’s look at two Scriptures in the Bible which can help clarify this question.

1) The Kingdom of God is a life of righteousness (right living) , goodness , peace and joy.

Romans 14:17 For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

As a Christian we now qualify for a measure of His Kingdom for we experience God’s peace, joy, and righteousness (right living) in our everyday life. As a believer, the Kingdom of God is within me, represented by His peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

I believe one of the most exciting things about the Christian lifestyle is to see His children being transformed daily into His likeness. Christ came into the world to come into our life, your life; to change our heart and to effect the way we live. It is time we as Christians tell people that Christ is here and can live in one’s heart and life, which will affect and change us into His likeness.

Yes, Christ is here through the Holy Spirit to making us feel better, actually to feel great! What causes this change in us?

The answer is found in Acts 1:8.Jesus says, “But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

2.) The Kingdom of God is power – Power in the Holy Spirit!
1 Corinthians 4:20 For the Kingdom of God is not just fancy talk; it is living by God’s power.

This “power” indicates that His Kingdom is action, not in word but in power. In Zechariah 4:6 we see that the power of God is in Spirit…“This is what the LORD says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty.

Since God is spirit it would seem that His power would be a spiritual power. A power that is first manifested in the Spirit; after which we see the results manifested in the physical. Yes, the spirit of God will change the believer both spiritual and physical. You can say, we are not the same person as we use to be when we become a child of the King. When the believer allows the Holy Spirit to take full reign in his /her life, there will be a change both spiritual and physical. The fruit of the spirit will be evident in their life.

There are nine virtues of the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit is produced by the spirit and become a physical reality – we receive them by the spirit and is reflected in both our spiritual and physical being. The fruit of the Spirit is listed in:

  • Galatians 5:22-23 “But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

These virtues of the Spirit are in Christ and Christ is in you as a believer. You can AND OUGHT TO have all nine of these virtues. Yes, the very power of God; the active, vibrant source of life for the human while here on earth. We as believers MUST let or you might say, ALLOW, the Holy Spirit have full control.

Again let me say, the Kingdom of God is not in word only, but in power:

  • the power to smile when someone irks you…
  • the power to hold steady in an unsweetened circumstance…
  • the power of meekness or patience flowing through you.
  • The power to bless an unhappy person; the very power of God being manifested in you and through you.

You are manifesting the very power of the Kingdom of God, for the Kingdom of God is at hand. To manifest the Kingdom of God is to manifest the very characteristics of the Spirit; all nine fruit of the Spirit…

  • at home,
  • at the mall,
  • at work…
  • wherever there is people…
  • demonstrating the very power of God, building the Kingdom of God.
  • You now become a participant in His Kingdom – the plan of God for all mankind.

Jesus stated in John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn’t like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

What comes from your lips? This will take allowing the Holy Spirit to control us. In other words, think before we react. Another way to say it, bite your lip. Sometimes if we have nothing good to say it is better to be quite.

Truly the Kingdom of Heaven has come, when other people see or sense peace, joy, love, life and righteousness in you. Is there power, a Godly power, coming from your life? Forgiveness, mercy; for this is what the Kingdom of God is!

To receive or have this power one must have a relationship with Jesus through the Holy Spirit residing in every believer. There must be time spent with God, through prayer and reading/meditating in God’s Word, the Bible.

This means getting away from your problems, not on your problems. That is to say, keeping your mind on God. Daily walking with God means communing with Him through prayer, through praise, through Scripture reading.

Are you desperate? Be desperate in prayer, in praise. If you are determined to stick with it, you will see His Kingdom come into and manifested throughout your life; family, friends, workplace including your city, your country and the nations.

Intercessory prayer can make a difference and should be an important part of the believers daily life, as the Scriptures states in:

  • James 5:16 “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.”

Let’s began today, seeing His Kingdom not only manifested in the Spirit but also in the Physical in our everyday life!

As always,
Love in Christ Jesus,
Paul Lundmark
