Good morning to all. I awaken to an outpouring of rain outside in my backyard. My thoughts go to the value of rain and it’s goodness for it keeps things fresh with newness of growth; so I compare this physical rain to that of the spiritual rain of God’s presence in us.
Just as there are dry seasons without rain on our earthly soil so is there dry seasons in our own spirit which needs the refreshing of you might say, (rain) in our spirit, thoughts, mind and (soil) soul. God has given us His Spirit to indwell in each believer for such a time as this. Throughout the Bible in the scriptures we see the conflict between the spirit and the flesh.
We are told in Galations to “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh”. The flesh is and will always be in conflict to the Spirit, “for these are contrary to one another, so that ye cannot do the things that ye would”.
But here in the next verse is where the rubber meets the road, sort of speak. Galations 5:18; ” But if ye be led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law”. In other words, if we are to follow Godliness, God’s ways, we must follow God’s direction with the leading of His Spirit in obedience.
You might say that the Holy Spirit is this refreshing rain for the dryness of our spirit. Yes, as we surrender, yield up our own spirit to the Spirit of the Holy Spirit there will become as “a spring of living water” within us, renewing our own spirit; that of our mind, thoughts and spirit, refeshing and renewed in Christ.
As we yield to the Holy Spirit we will not fulfil the lust of the flesh, which are the very works of Satan. They that “habitually” do the works of the flesh as listed in Galations 5:19-20, are considered lost and not saved. The listings in verses 19-20 are not just limited to what has been written, for he added the phrase, “and such like”.
These sins include sexual sins, religious sins, moral sins, violent sins, mental sins, in other words, anything which violates the laws of God and man.
It is interesting to note that the teachings of salvation depends on obedience to the works of the law. It seems that our sinful human nature somehow makes that which is prohibited more desirable.
This is why we have to come to an understanding of the true meaning of Walking in the Spirit. God’s plan of Salvation was given so we would not fulfil the lust of the flesh. It is a perfect plan and is God’s way to have a relationship with mankind, once again.
I am so thankful for the rain of the Holy Spirit in my soul; in my thoughts, in my mind and in my spirit. When I yield, surrender to the working of the Holy Spirit in my life I will not fulfil the lust of the flesh. How refreshing is His rain, the very presence of God, the Holy Spirit given to all who will recieve.
So, be refreshed today in the rain of His Spirit, the very presence of God inside of us, indwelling in the believer and follower of Christ.
As always, love in Christ Jesus,
