As I awaken this morning my thoughts go to the words of Jesus, in Matthew 16:18 – 19. Jesus spoke to Peter and stated that the “church” was going to be built on a solid rock, in reference to Peter’s solid belief in the Gospel of Christ Jesus which was revealed to him by God.
The very “Church” that Christ was going to build was going to be built upon Christ as the Chief cornerstone. Peter’s”confession” of faith was solid and immovable as a large rock.
Just as Peter’s belief in Christ was sure so is our faith to be. Upon this rock, this confession of Jesus Christ the church was to grow. As a believer, we too have our confession of faith in Christ Jesus and are part of that massive rock on which Christ would build His church.
Just like Peter, because of our great confession of faith as a Christian, that of “Jesus as the Creator and the Son of the living God”, we too would be a living stone in the church built on the very foundation of such a confession.
I love what Jesus stated in Matthew 16 about binding and loosening. In the Greek and Hebrew meaning, the verse should read, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you forbid on earth shall have been forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth shall have been permitted in heaven.” Jesus was saying that binding and loosing or rather permitting and forbidding are directly connected to this issue of authority over Satan in our thoughts, mind and spirit.
The life of Christ is built upon purity and holiness. Yes, we have the authority in Christ to bind (forbid) and loosen (permit) Satan from any grounds in our thoughts, mind and our life. Christ is coming back for a people of purity and holiness, right living.
Satan is all about unrighteousness, unholy and impure. As a believer, Satan have no way with us when we are walking in the Lord, in purity and holiness of the spirit. In this instance, we are binding and loosening.
Yes, we are given the keys of the Kingdom with authority of forbidding and permitting. Christ is in us. By the power of the Holy Spirit we will permit or forbid what the Lord has given us authority over. We truly are to be a walking, living testamony of the person of Christ Jesus.
The “church” that was and is being built consists of all who agree in mind and spirit with Peter’s “great confession”. This constituted little flocks of people in which today consists of local assemblies, with members, officers, and organized programs of teaching converts.
These assemblies represent the words of Jesus as stated in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them”.
Yes, Christ is coming back again, soon, for His church, His people, who He will bring back to heaven with Him and we will all be assembled together as “one” unified “body of Christ” forever to be with Him.
Come Lord Jesus come!
As always, love in Christ Jesus,
