The Foundation of Our Faith

This morning my thoughts go to that of asking this one question;

Where does our faith come from? or another way to say this is;

What is the foundation of our faith?

As we begin to answer this question, let’s look into the Bible, in the book of Hebrews.

Apostle Paul warns us of the danger of neglect of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Let’s never neglect the truth of the saving grace of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.

The Bible, the very Word of God must be planted in our hearts and lives. This only will be done through the saving knowledge of Christ Jesus and the continual knowledge of the Bible placed in our daily lives.

This warning was given because it is possible to drift away from God and the Word of God when our thoughts, mind and heart gets so wrapped up in doing life that of living in this world.

Yes, Satan has a way in decieving us into believing that the cares of life and the things of this world are more important than the things of God and the Word of God.

Let me encourage you to read, study and apply the Word daily. It is vital and of the GREATEST IMPORTANCE to keep the Word of God in our daily thoughts, mind and heart. As stated in Hebrews 2:1-4; “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; (v.3) How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

Yes, Jesus and the written Word of God is to be the very bases of our foundation for life and in life. We are to accept Jesus into our heart; to read, hear, believe and apply the Bible (the Word of God) as we incorporate God’s principles into our everday living as a believer.

Our living hope comes from God and through the saving knowledge of Christ Jesus in the believer. This Salvation is truly and indeed to be taken as the greatest of truth known to all creation and to be received as the greatest truth known to mankind. “For in Him (in Christ) we are to live, move and have our being”.

How can one neglect the very TRUTH given from God our Creator? This TRUTH of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, WILL set us free from our sinful nature, today, tomorrow and set us on the right path to eternity with God our Creator, if believed and received by faith.

As stated earlier in verse 3, “so great salvation”, Salvation is indeed a GREAT TRUTH. The very name of “Jesus” means “salvation”. Christ Jesus is our salvation and the very  foundation of our faith. Without faith in Jesus, there would be no faith in God.

This “salvation” has been accepted and supported in so many major doctrines such as:

  • Atonement – Le 17:11,
  • Substitution – Is 53:5,
  • Imputation – Ro 4:6-8,
  • Propitiation – 1 Jo 2:2,
  • Redemption – Ro 5:10-11,
  • Regeneration – Tit 3:5,
  • Santification – Heb 10:9-10,
  • Glorification – Ro 8:30

Again let me say, the very foundation of our faith as we can see above is found through out the Bible. The Old Testament pointed us to the coming Savior, Christ Jesus, and the New Testament confirmed Jesus as our Lord, Savior and Redeemer.

As stated in Hebrews 2:3, the words of the gospel of salvation were first spoken by Christ, then confirmed in writing by His apostles.

Yes, upon this Rock (our faith in Christ Jesus) Christ will build His church.

Let’s make it a daily practice to read God’s Word and talk to God, as we walk with Him through this journey of life on earth.

As a believer; God, Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit is in us, guiding and leading as we walk out this life as His witness and as a living testamony of the the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

As always, love in Christ Jesus,
Paul Lundmark
