This morning my thoughts begin to stir as I ponder over in my mind how we are to apply the Word of God. You cannot apply something you don’t know. In order to be successful in our application of anything, we read the instruction manual. With the manual comes step by step instructions , one step built upon another.
God has given us all, you might say, an instruction manual to properly live this life. Mistakes are made when we fail to read the instructions or fail to properly follow the instructions given in the manual.
So with this said, in order to properly apply God’s Word one must read, hear and know the Word. As we read / study the instruction manual for doing life (the Bible), we will begin to understand and as we apply the instructions (the Word of God) in our lives the process of doing life will be successful. We grow in our relationship with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit as we read His instruction manual, the Bible and obey.
I heard it said, we are in a war with Satan and the battleground is earth. Satan and his demons have taken control of mankind. I would say this statement is only correct to the degree if one participates in worldly desires, worldly ways, allowing the cares of life to control him, following and indulging in immoral practices; for these are the ones who are lovers of the world and not lovers of God and His ways.
As a follower of Christ; that of a born-again believer, we are in this world but are not partakers of the things of the world. When you come to the realization in your thoughts, mind, spirit and body, who you are and whose you are in Christ Jesus; you have won the battle against Satan.
Satan can find no place in the one who is in Christ and Christ is in Him. The two becomes as ONE. Working together as One Spirit, the Holy Spirit as our comforter and guide, leading us into all truth; the truth of His Word.
Remember this…Satan and his demons are of this world and uses every lie, deceitful way and evil practices that he can drum up, to keep sin stirred up in the life of every non-believer, non-follower of Jesus Christ. He will do all he can to take control; lie, steal and kill the human race if allow.
But I have good news, Jesus won the battle over Satan and his demons at and through the cross of Calvary, over 2000 years ago for you and for me; so there is never a need to ever fight the devil, for Jesus already defeated the devil and so can we. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is all about winning back the human race and once again having a relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Simply put, by accepting Jesus Christ into your heart and making Him your Lord and Savior you also become an overcomer.
In 1 Timothy 6:12, Paul tells us to “fight the good fight of faith.”
Some say, “I’m going to fight sin.” There is no need to do that either for God has the very cure for sin and that is JESUS; as stated in Hebrews 9:26, “If that had been necessary, he would have had to die again and again, ever since the world began. But no! He came once for all time, at the end of the age, to remove the power of sin forever by his sacrificial death for us.”
He sacrificed Himself to put away sin…so, there really isn’t a sin problem; just a sinner problem, for when you get the sinner to Jesus, Jesus cures that. So the ONLY FIGHT that the Christian needs to fight is the “good fight of faith.”
Applying the Word of God will take both knowing (that of hearing, reading, studying) and obeying the Word of God.
You might say, there are things that can stand in the way of our faith. Another way to say this is, that there are things that can block receiving what we need when we pray or ask.
Let’s take a look at some of the so called faith blockers, to better understand how to act on and apply God’s Word.
- A lack of knowledge of God’s Word is one of the greatest delay or destruction of our faith. Knowing God’s Word is of the utmost importance in growing our faith; for it will take His Word in our hearts to maintain and grow our faith. As stated in Romans 10:17 “Yet faith comes from listening to this message of good news—the Good News about Christ.”
So we can say that what people actually need is knowledge of God’s Word…than faith comes; again the scripture states in Romans 10:17 (KJV) “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
- Another faith blocker is when we try to believe. Don’t make this mistake. So many times you hear Christians say that they are “trying to have faith” or “trying to believe.” All that is necessary is to act on or apply what God says in His Word. For if we know that the Word of God is true and act on it, according to God’s will it will become a reality in our lives.
Yes, acting on what we know…the very truth of the Word of God, the knowledge of the Word of God. When the light of God’s Word is revealed there comes faith.
Understanding (hearing) the Word of God all hinges on the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ for all to recieve personally. How can you teach something you don’t know? And knowing Christ begins in the inside. Than we will begin to understand His Word His will for our lives. Yes, the Bible NOW, becomes understandable as the Holy Spirit reveals the very truth of it in us and though us.
As David states in Psalms 119:130, as your words are taught, they give light; even the simple can understand them.
Getting the Word of God in you will change you…faith will increase, as you believe, you will receive.
FAITH is simply (applying) acting on God’s Word. Another way to put it, FAITH is acting like God’s Word is true, which will include that of living God’s Word in our everyday life.
- Another very important faith blocker is: not applying God’s Word in the heart. It is of great importance to note, that mental agreement without applying His Word does no good: To mental agree on that the Bible as truth does no good until you act on or apply it. When you act on God’s Word for yourself it is only then that it becomes a reality to you. For it is only when you act on God’s Word that you are exercising FAITH.
For example: you can hold to the resurrection truth as a great doctrine, but it will not mean a thing to you until you can believe in your heart and say with your mouth, “Jesus died for me. Jesus was raised from the dead for me! Jesus arose victorious over death, hell, and the grave…and He did it all for me!
Yes, Jesus arose victorious over Satan therefore Satan has no dominion over me! Yes, I am free! Free from sin, free from sickness and disease.” It is when you believe it in your heart and confess it with your mouth – that the resurrection truth in the Word of God becomes a reality to you.
Remember, the people who get answers from God, are those who act on His Word. To act on the Word of God is to apply the Word of God.
The outcome of our faith becomes a reality, when our actions show the witness of who we are and the testimony of whose we.
Yes, we must begin to act like the Bible is True, so let me ask you:
Are we living Holy, as He is Holy?
Do you know that the Bible is true?
Are you convinced His Word is truth?
Are you determined to be obedient to Gods’ Word?
When we are convinced in our thinking and determined in our heart to live according to His Word, we will expect great and wonderful things in the Lord…the Bible – God’s instructions, will become real in our life. God will show up on the scene as your faith becomes reavealed.
Yes, reading and applying the living Word will show outward, Christ in us, the Holy Spirit manifested through us.
As always, love in Christ Jesus,
