What Changes a Person?

My thoughts this morning ponders over the very meaning that of a changed person and what changes a person? Yes, we make choices every day to where we want go; to school, to work, to which church, where to go shopping and even who our friends will be.

But the choice of our character and who we are as a person and who we become, are made up from the inside, you might say, from the very heart and soul of man. These choices made with our heart ultimately will be revealed on the outside, through our actions and shows others who we are and whose we are. What will be revealed in and through us will be one of two worlds: the god of this world or the God of the universe.

Let me say, what we see and hear plays an important part in what changes us. Yes, our thoughts and what we ponder over in our minds begin the reasoning process into what we will believe and in turn goes to our heart and becomes the reality of our actions.

We all will have times of choosing from the god of this world, Satan, or the Almighty God of this universe, our Creator. The choice we choose would seem to be a no brainier.

Satan has a way of deceiving the people of this world for he will intertwine some truth in with his false teachings. As man begins to reason out the world’s point of view; a life of self fix, self dependency (our bank accounts, Doctors, etc.) on what I have, what is available and all about what I can get, pride begins to take root and we become as little gods, in need of none other.

The things of this life becomes of most importance and the God, our Creator is of least importance. It all sounds good to the one whose faith and life is buried in the things and cares of this life, with itching ears, running to and fro after the latest fad of doctrine and following after a false god.

There will become times during our journey in life that we cannot buy true happiness, contentment and our heath. All the money in the world cannot and will not buy these things. There are times in life that we must make choices on who we will serve.

You might say, we make theses choices daily.

We all will make the choice whom we will serve; the god of this world, Satan, or our Creator, the God of the universe. The god of this world will only provide a temporary happiness, but you can be assured the bottom will fall out sooner or later when their life is based upon a sandy foundation.

There is always consequences to the wrong decisions we make. When we take the wrong path in and through life we become lost in this dark world.

Destruction is coming for the ones whose life is not based on a solid foundation. This foundation can only come through faith in Christ Jesus, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is to be the rock on which we base our life and build our life as we journey through this life.

Yes, He is to be our FIRM foundation. My life is based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Rock in which my mind, heart and body receives it’s strength. The foundation of my body, soul and spirit is standing strong on the rock in which the builder rejected, Jesus Christ as my chief cornerstone.

As stated in:

  • 1 Cor.  3:11,ESV, For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
  • 1 Cor. 10:4, ESV, And all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
  • 1 Peter 2:25, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

The Bible states that man was born into sin, that of a sinful nature. From birth we have had no choice in this matter of being born into this sinful nature. If we were fortunate to have been brought up with “Christian” parents we were taught to live a life of respect for others and Biblical ways, that of “right-living”, being corrected along our journey as a child. This in itself will only go as far as we do not allow the sinful nature to rise up.

As we grow into an accountable age we make our own decisions in life and here is where our greatest problem lies. The sin nature of man begins to rise up, wanting to have our own way and showing, you might say, it’s ugly face up.

In ourselves we cannot and will not change this for the god of this world, Satan, will always be trying to pull man into the way of destruction; a lifestyle of waywardness that of sin. Satan will lie, steal and destroy whom follows after the things of this world.

But I have GOOD NEWS, God our Creator has made a way for all to become a new person or you might say, a new creature. This became a reality when God gave His Son Jesus, to die on an old rugged cross, was raised from the dead and resurrected to a new life and became the substitution for our sins and the mediator between God and man.

Yes, for the forgiveness of our/your sins. This is what is meant by the GOOD NEWS of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We can become a NEW CREATURE in Christ, when we accept by faith, Jesus into our hearts, as the Son of God. For He became the substitution for our sins. We are changed from the inside, our thoughts, mind and spirit become as ONE with Christ. Our old desires are gone and we have new desires.

We must desire and be willing to change our thoughts and mind and determine in our heart to make Jesus, the Lord and Savior of our life from this day forth. As we accept Jesus and have determined in our heart, He changes us, gives us new thoughts, a new mind and yes, a new heart and desires to follow Him; His Spirit, the Holy Spirit takes up residence.

Another way to say this, is, that He indwells in the believer and HE is changing us into a new person not following after the sinful nature but following after the righteousness of Christ in us.

As a believer, we don’t want to do the sinful things of the past, of the old nature, but we have a new nature, a new desire to follow Christ Jesus and His righteousness that is dwelling inside us.

How exciting is that! Our soul is washed clean by the blood of Jesus, “whiter than snow”. When we repent, our sins are cast into the deepest part of the sea and as far as the east is to the west. Yes, WE ARE FORGIVEN, never to be brought up again. We have a right mind and right heart for we are cleansed and made whole in Christ Jesus. A new mind, a new heart and a new soul, a desire to be with our Lord and Savior.

We have become a true follower of Jesus Christ, “a Christian”, yes, Christ-like. He replaces the stony heart with a new heart, a loving heart or you might say, a new spirit to serve the Lord in all righteousness. A newness of spirit, new desires and a relationship with our Creator.

We make choices every day and this day my choice is to follow after righteousness. How about you?

Remember, the old nature is still lurking it’s ugly face around but your desires are now for the new nature in Christ Jesus who is in you.

Now, my thoughts are not the same. My mind dwells on only what is good and of good report. Yes, my God, my Savior, my Redeemer and my Lord in whom I live, and move and have my being.

Regardless of what the temptation is, “if” you stand upon and apply His promises you can be assured that God is faithful and God will show you how to escape temptation’s. His Spirit, the power of the Holy Spirit is working in us as a believer and as an overcomer.

Let’s personalize this scripture by placing your name in the brackets just as I have: 1 Cor. 10:13 The temptations in ( Paul’s) life is no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than (Paul) can stand. When (Paul) is tempted, he will show ( Paul) a way out so that ( Paul) can endure.

Do you believe this promise…accept it…it is yours! Thank You, Lord Jesus for making a way!

When a person becomes a Christian he becomes a new person inside…yes, a new life has begun. A NEW CREATURE!

This truly means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! The King James Bible says it exactly the way it has to be and must be…

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. “Christianity” is all about a new life, yes, and a changed life.

Here in God’s Word it says that we are a brand-new person – a brand-new creature. The old one who had a temper, a nasty disposition, a critical spirit is gone…yes, a brand-new creature; as the scripture states… “Therefore …old things are passed away; behold, ALL things are become new.”

God’s Word is true…we are a new creature:

  • Instead of irritation and frustration there is peace.
  • Instead of hate, there will be love.
  • Instead of misery, there will be joy.
  • Instead of impatience, there will be patience and understanding.
  • Instead of being unkind, there will be kindness.
  • Instead of being rough with everyone, there will be gentleness.

Let’s begin today to turn in all the attitudes of the old creature and take up the new ones of the new creature. They are ALL ours because of Jesus and God’s promises.

Again, personalize the above scripture by replacing your name in the brackets as I have: “When ( Paul ) became a Christian he became a brand-new person inside. ( Paul ) is not the same any more. A new life has begun!” DO YOU BELIEVE THIS?

  • 2 Corinthians 5:18 – 21 (NLT) And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. v.19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. v.20 And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” v.21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

V. 19 above…is the most wonderful message that He gave to us to tell others.

This is a promise from God that he no longer counts your sins, but has blotted them out.

And then God says in verse 20, He has made us – (that’s you and me and all believers); ambassadors or representatives of Christ.

Yes, as stated in verse 21; Christ took my sins, your sins, and gave us God’s goodness……what an exchange!

Let’s be determined to SHARE LOVE, SHARE GOD and yes, SHARE LIFE, together.

Blessings to All,
As Always, Love in Christ Jesus,
Paul Lundmark
