Once again this morning I will continue my daily thoughts taken from Ephesians chapters 4 and 5. In ourselves we cannot change our thoughts and attitudes BUT the Good News is that the Holy Spirit who is indwelling in the believer will change and renew our thoughts and attitudes. He is working out a good thing in us.
Make the scriptures personal and come alive to you by replacing my name and with your name in the parentheses below.
Ephesians 4:23 – 32 (NLT) Instead, let the Spirit renew (Paul’s) thoughts and attitudes. Put on (Paul’s) new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. And “don’t sin by letting anger control (Paul). ” Don’t let the sun go down while (Paul) (is) still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. If (Paul) (is) a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use (Paul’s) hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. (Paul) Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything (Paul) say be good and helpful, so that your (Paul’s) words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way (Paul) live. Remember, he has identified (Paul) as his own, guaranteeing that (Paul) will be saved on the day of redemption. (Paul) Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven (Paul).
Jesus will give you the power to change your life-style and all your attitudes. Yes, there are things we must do on our own and that is to be aware of what we say and do and acting according to God’s Word. We must not act on impulse but must be careful in word and deed.
Ephesians 5:1 – 11 (NLT) Imitate God, therefore, in everything (Paul) (does), because (Paul) (is) his dear (child). Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us a pleasing aroma to God. Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among (Paul), Such sins have no place among God’s people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for (Paul), Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. (Paul) Don’t participate in the things these people do. For once (Paul) (was) full of darkness, but now (Paul) (has) light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within (Paul) produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead (Paul), expose them.
As you go through life learn to please the Lord. He will let you know what is right and what is wrong THROUGH the working of the Holy Spirit. Listen & obey.
As always, love in Christ Jesus,
