In today’s thoughts I will bring out a few pointers on the importance of love. First let me say, LOVING GOD requires obedience and God’s love is sacrificial. John 3:1-21, NIV – VERSE 16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
A point to remember is that God’s love is inexhaustible. Psalm 136:1-26, NIV – VERSE 1: Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.
Love is most important. Love is more important than spiritual gifts. In other words, spiritual gifts are important but love must be in everything and before everything, yes, our reason for everything we do is to be given in love as stated in 1 Corinthians 13:13 There are three things that will endure-faith, hope, and love- and the greatest of these is love.
We choose to love. Love is a choice. Love chooses forgiveness rather than revenge. Matthew 5:38-48, TLB – VERSE 43: There is a saying, “Love your friends and hate your enemies.” But I say: Love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!
Loving God is the greatest human act. Mark 12:28-34, NLT V. 29-31: Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
Loving God means serving him. John 21:15-25, TLB– v.17: Once more he asked him, “Simon, son of John, are you even my friend?” Peter was grieved at the way Jesus asked the question this third time. “Lord, you know my heart; you know I am,” he said. Jesus said, “Then feed my little sheep.”
Loving God requires everything we have and are, and do. Revelation 2:1-7, TLB – v.5: Yet there is one thing wrong; you don’t love me as at first! Think about those times of your first love (how different now!) and turn back to me again and work as you did before; or else I will come and remove your candlestick from its place among the churches.
Believing God’s Word will lead to obeying God’s Word. It takes faith to believe and by faith we receive. James 1:19-27, TLB – v.22: And remember, it is a message to obey, not just to listen to. So don’t fool yourselves.
Another important point to always remember is that applying God’s Word must always follow “hearing/reading God’s Word.
Proverbs 2:1-4 – My child, listen to me and treasure my instructions. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight and understanding.
Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure.
Here are seven verbs that will call us to action and tell us what is involved in gaining wisdom:
- “store up,”
- “turning your ear,”
- “call out,”
- “cry aloud,” and
- Deuteronomy 5:29, NKJV – Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!
- John 15:10,NLT When you obey me, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father and remain in his love.
TODAY God is calling people: who are walking in love and obedient in all His ways, to act on HIS Word and by faith believe those things that are not, as though they are; according to His Word – His will! The favor of God is with those who obey. Obedience and Humility is a must in the Christian life – God’s will for mankind.
As always, love in Christ Jesus,
