As I begin this day, my thoughts dwell on how to keep focused on Godly principles and what causes the Christian to stray away from the truth.
Let’s look at some issues that may be the cause of lost interest in the Christian way and how we can get entangled in worldy ways.
The pride of life, the things and cares of life can cause one to stray away, when you allow these things to take priority in your life. So many times we make a reputation and become self-centered, through the accomplishments of life and pride enters in. Before long it is about what I have, my possessions, what I own, what I owe, what is mine, what belongs to me and who I have become. This becomes the downfall of the Christian.
Modern psychological attributes that many personal and social problems are from individual lack of self-esteem. As I see it, our problems are related in self-centeredness, not self-esteem, for the scriptures in Philippians state that we are to be of a humbled mind; other-esteem, not-self esteem.
The love of Christ was all about the other person. As a follower of Christ we are to think as He thought, walk as He walked and love as He loved. Yes, we are to have ” the mind of Christ”. We are to “put on the mind of Christ”. Paul urges us to be low-minded not high-minded, seeking the good of others and not concerned with ourselves.
When we come to Christ we must be empty of self and put on the new man, Christ Jesus. His spirit will lead us and guide us, but we must decide to make that choice. Being in Christ and with the spirit of Christ indwelling, we have this new mind set and desires to do what is right, love others before ourselves. We so many times put on the mind set that we think we deserve this or that, which is self-centered ideas.
Self-centerness, many times lead into the works of the flesh, and into sin; what I want, what I desire, and what I deserve, taking us away from “the mind of Christ”.
We are told in Philippians 2:12, “to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling”. In other words, work it out in practice, applying God’s Word in our life. Our Salvation is received entirely by grace through faith, in Christ, not works. We will do good works for God has created us to do good works; for God is now working on us through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
It should be our goul and desire in life to get to know Christ, through His resurrection power of Him working through us in the power of the Holy Spirit. It is never to be considered “our faith” but always Christ’s faith working in us. Our ultimate goal in this life is to keep the faith and finish the course of life. The prize is ahead, God’s “crown of righteousness” which is given from the righteous Judge because we have kept the faith!
We are to worry about nothing, for we can pray about everything and God will work things out through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We are told in Phillipians 4: 6-7, to let your request be known unto God and that the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall (will) keep your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus.
In conclusion, our minds are never to be on evil or ugly things. We are to keep our minds on things that are true, honest, lovely, and things of good report. In other words, this is to be our individual guidlines in and for study and activities.
This is truly to be the Christian lifestyle. The Christ in us flowing through us with and in the power of the Holy Spirit.
May the God of peace be with you, As always, love in Christ Jesus, Paul Lundmark
