06/27 – Defeat the Power of Sin

Again this morning, my thoughts go to the very resurrection power that comes alive when you believe the very plan of salvation for you and all mankind. Jesus came in the flesh, died on the cross, and was resurrected for you and me.

What SIN is? One of the most common definitions of SIN is –” missing the mark“.

Another definition of SIN is found in 1 John 3:4 Those who sin are opposed to the law of God, for all sin opposes the law of God.

Simply put, SIN is anything contrary to what the Word of God commands or forbids. The best definition of SIN can be summed up in 1 John 5:17 “Every wrong is sin.”

What SIN does? The effect of SIN separation: SIN causes separation from God. SIN brings death, eternal damnation. By believing in Jesus the penalty of SIN is broken. For Jesus paid the penalty for your SIN with HIS blood on Calvary.

  • Isaiah 59:1-4 Listen! The LORD is not too weak to save you, and he is not becoming deaf. He can hear you when you call. But there is a problem—your sins have cut you off from God. Because of your sin, he has turned away and will not listen anymore. Your hands are the hands of murderers, and your fingers are filthy with sin. Your mouth is full of lies, and your lips are tainted with corruption. No one cares about being fair and honest. Their lawsuits are based on lies. They spend their time plotting evil deeds and then doing them.

What should be done about SIN? The believer should NEVER attempt to condone SIN or attempt to excuse his SIN.

There are ONLY two things that should be done about SIN: “confess or acknowledge it” and “forsake it”.

By yielding completely to God believers are restored to full fellowship with God.

YES, by accepting Jesus as your Savior; confessing your SINS and turning from ALL wrong doing, you now become in right standing and fellowship with God. The Bible, God’s Word tells us what should be done about SIN.

  • Psalm 32:5 Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide them. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.

Being tempted by the world. The term “world” here can be described as a spirit of rebellion against God.

  • 1 John 2:15-17 Stop loving this evil world and all that it offers you, for when you love the world, you show that you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only the lust for physical pleasure, the lust for everything we see, and pride in our possessions. These are not from the Father. They are from this evil world. And this world is fading away, along with everything it craves. But if you do the will of God, you will live forever.

As always, love in Christ Jesus,
Paul Lundmark
