Supernatural Power in the Believer

I must continue my thought today with the importance of being unified as a people for the cause of Christ.

In Acts, Chapter two, we see how God unified the people and brought them together for His purpose (this came to be known as Pentecost).

Many nations and tongues were represented but they were unified for one purpose and those present were able to experience an outpouring of the power of God’s Spirit. Signs and wonders followed the disciples and believers.

  • Acts 2:12 (NLT) They stood there amazed and perplexed. “What can this mean? “they asked each other.
  • In Acts 2:41 – 42 (NLT) Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.

Just as in the day of Pentecost, the various “tongues” that were spoken were languages known in that day so is “tongues” that of languages known somewhere in the world today.

Simply put, the gift of tongues is supernatural utterance by the Holy Spirit spoken through a believer in a language, which the believer has never learned.

Man’s spirit is weak, because of the dominion of satanic power for so many centuries, but God made provision for man to communicate and edify man’s spirit and strengthen the inner man through “tongues” or unknown languages.

Yes this impartation to man, from God His Spirit, to man’s spirit, brings supernatural power and strength to the very depth of the human heart; to the mind, the spirit, the soul and body of mankind.

This one Bible doctrine has been the ridicule, slander and object of blasphemy on the part of man, yet it is God’s very way to communicate to and through man.

Can we afford to reject this blessed gift given to man, that of the very blessings of the Spirit…just because we are ignorant of its purpose or benefits?

  • In Hosea 4:6 (NKJV) God says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”

Just because man cannot understand God’s ways does not make it right. Do we lower to the human plane before we can believe that He has a better way…a good purpose in them?

God’s plan from the very beginning of man was to commune with His creation. He has made a way through the Holy Spirit to not only work in us but also work through us.

When we desire God’s ways more than our own ways and follow His utmost calling in our lives, we will see great and wonderful things accomplished for His Kingdom.

When discussing the various gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians, Paul referred to that prophecy and pointed out that it foretold the coming of the gift of tongues to the New Testament Church.

He also made mentioned of the prophecy in Isaiah, and gave one of the great purposes of the gift…that it should be a sign to unbelievers.

Isaiah 28:11 (NIV) Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues God will speak to this people, to whom he said, “This is the resting place, let the weary rest”; and, “This is the place of repose (trust or rest)”— but they would not listen.

The church of Acts were brought together, unified, even though they spoke several different languages, for the purpose of “Evangelizing the Gospel” spreading the good news of Christ.

Speaking in “Tongues” is an outward sign of one “filled with the Holy Spirit” which also bears witness with your spirit for strengthening an individual and edifying the body, “the church”.

This is a mystery to the world but it is God’s divine plan for “the church” and all mankind. Yes, the Holy Spirit directing one’s life!

May God Bless You!
As always, love in Christ Jesus,
Paul Lundmark
