Growing in Christ

Good morning to all. In Christ we have all that is needed to live in this life and live a Godly sucessful life.

As stated in 2 Peter, “God has given unto all of us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue”

It is well to note that throughout the Bible from Genesis 3:15 to it’s final promise recorded in Revelations 22:20 their are appropriately 3800 so called promises. I have often said, find the promise you need for today , believe, pray the promise for you and be patient in well doing.

As a born- again believer we have received a new nature and this new nature is God’s divine nature. This new nature comes through faith in Christ Jesus and we are partakers of this new nature through His Word and the promise. God is faithful and will do what He has said, for God cannot lie.

It is worthy to note that as we grow in Christ and the knowledge of God and His Word we will “never be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ”. The key is to be steadfast in the faith.

God’s divine nature comprises of these seven attributes which are understood as natural developments of true faith as we grow in Christ as a Christian. It is something we do not work for but will notice as we grow in Christ.

From time to time it is good for an individual evaluation… so with that said, Are you growing in Christ as a Christian?

Let me list these seven attributes as they are listed in 2 Peter 1:4-9: we are to pay close attention and become diligent (that of doing thoroughly and well) in these attributes of being a believer:

1) virtue (moral goodness and spiritual valor-strength of character),

2) and in virtue show knowledge,

3) and in knowledge show temperance,

4) and in temperance we show patience,

5) and through patience we show godliness,

6) and in godliness we show brotherly kindness,

7) and in brotherly kindness we show charity (love- which involves a deep respect for a person, recognizing the value and interests of that person and caring for him or her as a genuine person).

Also, other characteristics of the spirit filled believer are the nine fruit of the spirit as stated in Galations 5:22-23,  “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” NLT.

As stated in 2 Peter 1:9, in regards to seven attributes, “But he that lacked these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins”.

In other words, these attributes are not by our own works but are cultivated through trusting in the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, if we are lacking in these attributes, we should examine the reality of our professed faith to be sure we are truly placing our trust in Christ’s finished work in and through the cross, His shed blood.

As a believer we are to be both knowledgeable in God’s Word and a doer of God’s Word, which will keep us in the faith and take us through this life in Christ becoming fruitful in His Kindgom.

Have a blessed day!

As always, love in Christ Jesus,
Paul Lundmark
