January 12: Hearing from God

Are you hungry to hear from God? Are you desperate to hear from God? Those who desire to find God will find time. It will take more than the “normal”, not measuring up to others, but go after God with your whole heart.  Paul rebukes the Corinth church because of their walk…be not “like mere men” as Paul states in: 1 Corinthians 3:3, for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world? (NLT). God wants so much more for His people. He desires us to be like Christ, not merely “normal” but Christ like!

God’s desire is to overfill our lives with the very power of Christ. This power He has given to us if we “come out” of the “familiar” and “normal daily routine” of doing things. Security in the familiar things around us, not seeking God for the truth, staying in lifeless churches simply because of familiar faces is not the answer.

We must be rooted and grounded in Christ in all that we do. God is calling for an ongoing spiritual growth in our lives and that our lives be based on and in the truth of Christ. We don’t like change. We like living life in the familiar. Living life with the everyday routine of working all day, coming home to sit in front of the television, and then collapse in bed only to see our life become a chain of bondage.

Just as Moses and others left the “familiar” and pitched their tent “outside the camp” where they would then seek the Lord, so we are to do the same. Jesus also went “outside the camp” that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffering outside the gate. Outside the camp is simply getting alone, without distractions. You and God. Yes, you are talking to God and God talking to you.
Hebrews 13:12-14 So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates in order to make his people holy by shedding his own blood. So let us go out to him outside the camp and bear the disgrace he bore. For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our city in heaven, which is yet to come (NLT).

Remember, the highest form of prayer is to find God. This is one reason why Jesus said to get alone when you pray. Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you (NLT). James 4:8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world (NLT).

God is looking for a Holy people. It will take a sacrifice of time in our daily routine to get away from the familiar and place our tent in the presence of God. People TODAY are looking for a fast and easy fix to find God. The only and true way to find God is taking time out yourself and “SEEK HIM”. NOW is the time to pray. Won’t you seek Him and go after God and never let Him go?
