January 29: Beware – Know the Word

This morning, my thoughts go to the everyday deceptive practices being used in our society. Just as a side note, beware of those who say wrong is right. This is where discernment is needed in the life of every believer. I will go as far as to say there are those who call right, wrong. This is evil. Knowing what is right will keep us from falling for that which is wrong.

Today, it is of the utmost importance to know the truth. You might say, but what is truth? The truth comes from knowing God and His Word. The very truth we are to follow lies in the Bible, God’s Word.  Read it, study it, believe it, and apply it. I believe the Bible and its principles will guide and direct us in this life, leading us to the pathway of truth and right living.

God’s Word becomes unveiled, or you might say, the revelation of the Bible is opened to your understanding when you accept Jesus and the Gospel of Jesus Christ into your heart and life. We must continue in the faith through prayer, reading, and applying the Word of God. This is where our faith will increase with knowledge and understanding of His will, and the plan for our life will become clearer. You might say, God’s Word is manna that feeds our spirit, soul, and body. We receive life from it.

Yes, faith comes from hearing, reading, believing, and obeying the Word of God. John 14:6, Jesus states, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me (KJV) and John 8:32 states, you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free (NLT).  Jesus is the way to truth. Jesus is “truth”.If you want to know “truth” get to know Jesus. Follow Jesus, and the truth will become clear.

Yes, the Word of God is “alive and active” as stated in Hebrews 4:12, for the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires (NLT).

Now, let me bring out some false teachings and false doctrine that has been taught as truth within the body of Christ, the church. These teachings over the last few years have infiltrated the fundamental views and doctrines of so many mainline denominations and independent churches. I have noticed a mixing pot of truth and false teaching, and those with itching ears will take the bait. This false teaching brings people of faith lacking the very power thereof.

Satan is the master of lies and deception. As stated in 2 Timothy 3:2-5, we are warned of the actions of people in the last days. They will be; Lovers of themselves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those who are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. Having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof: from such turn away (KJV).

I am sad to say that there is a whole new generation that has been taught and brought up into false teachings and even following after false doctrine, believing the deceiving ways of Satan. We are warned in the Bible of this falling away, as stated in 2 Timothy 4:3-4, For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths (NIV).

It is not my intention to call out names but hope to bring out the very truth of the Gospel. It is my intention to bring to light this false teaching so that we as believers may steer clear of this type of teaching. May your mind and heart be open to the truth of the Gospel and God’s Word?

One of the main teachings of these false teachers is that of the authority we have as believers. The false teachings say that since we are fellow-heirs with Christ, we also have that same authority and the same power to do what He is able to do. Yes, there is authority but only in and through Christ Jesus.

That authority supposedly includes creating what we want by our words and commanding wealth and health into existence. We can also bring down the enemy and, in effect, take over the world. ALL authority has been won back by Jesus Christ. He possesses ALL authority.

But it is at this point that things go astray. Their notion that God already has for you, that of great wealth, health, and the power to do mighty works in Jesus’ name. I will say that, as believers, we do have authority over Satan when he tries to infiltrate his deceiving ways into our lives. This must not be allowed. All of this is based on their understanding – of what it means for the believer to possess the authority of Jesus Christ. It is false in their belief of who we are and what we are in Christ. This teaching is in their misuse and misappropriation of spiritual authority.

Now – as we know, ALL authority has been won back by Jesus Christ. He possesses ALL authority. But it is at this point that things go astray. Their notion that God already has for you, that of great wealth, health, and the power to do mighty works in Jesus’ name. Any so-called work that is done will be done through the power and might of the Holy Spirit living inside of the believer.

These so-called prophets, pastors, and teachers put it this way; you simply need to see it, believe it, confess it, name it, and claim it into existence. All of this – is based on what they often call, “the authority of the believer,” which is given to us through Christ. They also believe we as believers have the power to usher in the new Kingdom, the new earth.

My understanding from God’s Word is that there will be a time when God Himself will bring down or set up this new Kingdom on earth. It will be not of our doing, but the doing of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, setting up this Kingdom, the new earth. I do believe we need to use the authority of Christ as a believer, but it only comes through Christ in us. It is Christ’s authority working in us as we realize who we are and whose we are.

Here are the facts…Let’s get to the core issue of the spiritual authority. First, let’s look at some passages from the Bible. Jesus did say that through His resurrection that all authority had been given to Him, as stated in Matthew 28:18, And Jesus came and spoke unto them, all power (all authority) is given unto me in heaven and in earth (KJV). The Bible does teach that we are fellow-heirs with Christ and that it is God’s will for us to sit with Christ on His throne.

Here lies the key to this authority. As believers, we receive a new spirit, and with this new spirit, we will know whose we are in Christ and who we are in Christ as a believer.  Romans 8:16-17, For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ, we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering (NLT)Ephesians 2:6, For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus (NLT). Revelations 3:21, Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne (NLT).

These are facts – there is an authority that we possess in Christ as believers. But that is not the problem. The problem is, what they make these facts MEAN. Not only do they teach falsely as to what this authority means, but they completely disregard the Word of God as to the process by which we have this authority.

Where are their teachings to read and study the Word of God, as stated in 2 Timothy 2:15, Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth (NLT).

Another question arises: What exactly is the authority of the believer? As some of these teachers teach, they include the power to command it into our possession. They say that we have not only the RIGHT to certain things but the MIGHT to bring it to pass. As they teach; indeed, since we are, “little gods,” we can create with our words – with our, “positive confession.”

There is certainly some truth to “speaking positive and not speaking negative” that’s called faith. It is a fact that through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, there is a full restoration of what Adam lost. In Christ, we do possess authority over all things. But the question at that point becomes: What does that mean, and how does it function? The Bible says that IN CHRIST, we possess all authority and all victory.

Get that: IN CHRIST. Not IN US. In other words, Christ in us. Another way to see this is that our spiritual authority is not a THING God gives us. It is not a POSITION we are handed. It is never power we are given to use FOR Christ. The Bible states in I Corinthians. 6:19, Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself (NLT).

In other words, we don’t even have authority over OURSELVES. As we yield/ surrender our mind, emotions, our spirit and yes, our body to the very work of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit, God will have His way, His will in us and work through us. This is the authority of Christ in us.

Therefore, how likely does it seem that God is going to give us a THING called, “power,” or, “authority,” and let us decide how to use it over anything else? It is His authority and His power, for we are the vessel, or you might say the instrument that God chooses to use for His divine purpose.
