In August 2021, my son Paul and I were making trips to move our belongings from Illinois to our home in Georgia. On that day, I was driving a vehicle pulling a 20-foot flatbed trailer loaded with tractors, lawn mowers, a 4-wheeler, and other items. The load may have shifted. As I descended a mountain, the vehicle began to sway, and the trailer swayed across all three lanes. My son was driving his truck behind me, also pulling a box trailer. We were talking on our phones, and he had mentioned that if the trailer ever began to sway, I should not hit the brakes but instead speed up slightly and then ease off slowly.
That advice proved invaluable at just the right time. My son called me and asked how fast I was going; I realized I was going too fast without noticing the vehicle’s acceleration. I was in trouble. My son drove in the middle of the lanes behind me, warning other vehicles of the danger. I cried out for God’s help and remembered the advice my son had given me minutes before. I sped up quickly, and the trailer began to straighten out; then I eased off the gas, gradually aligning the trailer. I am thankful for my son Paul’s advice and for God’s protection. It could have been a fatal incident. All praise to God.
