God Knows

I have been praying for guidance on buying a larger motorcycle because we want to spend time on extended weeklong trips and need a more comfortable ride with ample luggage space. We cherish the experience of riding outdoors and the feeling of the open-air riding on the motorcycle.

On a summer day in 2010, while at work, the Supervisor of Maintenance approached me with an offer. He had seen me riding my 750 Honda to work over the past year and wondered if I might be interested in his Yamaha Road Star Silverado 1600 cruiser. It was much larger and seemed like an ideal cruising bike. I had told him about my wife’s chemotherapy for cancer and how riding in the evenings was therapeutic for her.

He mentioned he was planning to buy the latest Yamaha model directly from the factory and thought his current bike would be more comfortable for her. I had seen him ride it in the mornings and agreed it would be great for cruising on the highway. My wife and I enjoyed our evening and weekend rides on the 750, but it wasn’t comfortable for longer distances.

Two weeks later, I took a test ride at his house on the Yamaha. Despite its size and weight, it was surprisingly easy to handle, and I knew it would be better for extended trips. I was impressed by all the chrome and the extras, as well as the leather bags, so I bought it.

We traveled 50,000 miles, heading north, south, east, and west, pulling a motorcycle trailer. Those 10 years of riding were a true blessing, filled with wonderful memories in the open air. In 2020, I decided to sell it as we were getting older. I am grateful to God for the relaxation and joy we experienced during those miles on the road, and I believe it was a blessing for my wife throughout her chemotherapy treatments.
