As Sure as There is a Heaven and Hell…

The events unfolded in the spring of 2004. The previous night, I had spent time studying about the concepts of Heaven and Hell. As one of the Letter Carriers, I was often asked to give the morning weather forecast before we departed on our routes. That particular morning, I was expected to provide the forecast, yet I had not checked the local radio station’s report. When asked by a few Letter Carriers for the weather update, a glance out the window suggested rain due to the dark, rolling clouds.

Without consideration, I stepped away from my workstation and declared with conviction, “As surely as there is a Heaven and Hell, IT WILL NOT RAIN HERE.” I then went back to my station. Puzzled, I questioned God about the origin of those words, knowing they were not my own. Some Letter Carriers, passing by, remarked that I was mistaken in fact dead wrong. The sky grew darker, and every television in the offices I delivered to that morning broadcasted warnings of severe storms approaching Kankakee County.

I entrusted the day’s weather to God, firm in the belief that the declaration was His, not mine. God’s word is steadfast, and He had proclaimed, “As surely as there is a Heaven and Hell, it will not rain today.” Upon my return to the office around 3 pm, my coworkers were astonished, questioning how I predicted the absence of rain despite a 100% forecast. I responded, “God wants you to know the reality of Heaven and Hell.” Indeed, God had delivered His message.
