God’s Word Brings New Life

This event occurred in August 2003. I served as an Adult Sunday School teacher at our church. At that time, my mother was under hospice care at her home and was expected to pass away soon. The night before, she encouraged me to go and teach the Sunday School class, assuring me she would be alright, with my sister and brother by her side.

On that Sunday morning, I was teaching about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. A man arrived after walking for an hour to reach the church. He had found our church in a phone book and felt compelled to attend that morning. Upon receiving the Sunday School lesson, he remarked that it addressed the very questions he had been asking God.

Ten minutes before the class ended, I received a call informing me that my mother had passed away. I handed my teaching notes to my assistant, who completed the lesson. Later that day, my assistant informed me that the man who visited the class stayed for the church service and answered an altar call to accept Christ as his Lord and Savior.

I am grateful to God that my mother is in a better place and that on the same morning, the visitor accepted Christ into his life.
